Love this product, but you really need to come up with a thiner, A lot of product is waisted as it does dry out and get thicker in the bottle with use, Because of the price of each color and the small amount of color you get I need to use every drop.
Each color of Shellac is specifically formulated to apply smoothly, cure completely, wear for 14 days and remove in 10 minutes. In order to achieve all of these goals, each color has a different formula that is made up of its own unique blend of many different materials, including up to four different solvents. As you apply Shellac, those solvents will begin to evaporate off, which is why over time, you may notice that your Shellac begins to feel thicker during application. We have formulated each color with this in mind, so even if it does feel a little thicker it will still cure, wear, and remove as it is intended. However, there are practices that will speed up the evaporation of these solvents and can cause faster thickening of Shellac.
These include:
• Not tightening the cap properly in between applications
• Not replacing the cap during or between applications
• Exposing the open bottle to light
• Overworking the Shellac (like pumping the brush in and out of a mascara tube)
• Warming the bottle above room temperature
Unfortunately, these are all mistakes that cannot be undone. Contrary to some comments and suggestions that we have seen, there is no safe and effective way to make Shellac thinner once it has thickened.
2 Questions:
Do you need to shake the Shellac top coat. It seems to get tiny bubbles if you do.
The frosted colors seem to have problems curing properly even if shaken well. When you apply the tip coat over them it pulls the product as if it did not cure all the way?
I absolutely love this product. This polish is so easy that I can do it myself and wears well. I cannot say enough about how great this product is. Thanks CND
Brenda,
It stays a better consistency if shaken, I shake it while the client is in remover wraps and there are not usually any bubbles by application time.
Leave the bottle soak in hot water for 5 minutes before use if it is a little thick. Works perfectly, also helps you get out those drops in the corners of the bottle!

Bubbles tend to actually be cuticle remnants, fuzzies trapped, or a thick application.
I am wondering did you clean the smile line with a brush which dipped in alcohol or acetone. I have some clients which are nail techs did that and it caused the chipping on the white.
I have clients that wear the color shellac. And some of them are having problems with white spots on their nails. But when I put the french manicure it dose not do it.
I have had some clients who had one nail peel. Why is it doing that? I’m doing everything you are supposed to do for prep. And I’m using a creative nail pro-finish uv lamp is that a good lamp to use with shellac?
I love applying Shellac. and our clients love it….just one question from a nail tech’s perspective…..sometimes our spa smells strongly from the Shellac odors. We do have a ventilation system…but not the best. Is Shellac relatively safe to breathe from a health standpoint? Our spa does not do acrylics, regular gels, etc….only regular manis, pedis and Shellac services so we are not use to the stronger fumes…..just wondering if it’s safe for us? Many thanks.
I love, love, love shellac. The only problem – not enough colors. I was so excited when the new ones just came out and they are so
boring. Summer colors are bold and bright and the new ones are either pale or look like winter colors. When I get my manucure I can never decide on a color because I don’t wear light pinks and beige. Give us some pretty colors.

Hi, In my town a shellac manicure costs $40.00. After 14 days, they need another $40.00 shellac manicure, is this correct? Shellac is great, but for keeping this look up, it costs $80.00 a month, is this correct? Thank you!
I’m looking to purchase a new nail table. Can I purchase one that has the UV lights built into the table instead of using the CND lamp. Wouldn’t it be the same thing? The ads say it cures gel nails so I’m assuming this type of light would work also on the Shellac?

Some sunscreens can work through the tiny tunnels and cause issues. You might try having them apply Solar Oil to the nails to help block out the sunscreen and advise them to keep it off the nails as much as possible. Sunscreen combined with chlorine can also cause trouble as well.
help I love shellac and have tripled my clientele with the product.I have clients who have been using it for about 3 months and their nails have saed breaking in the quick. Is it not using oil and the nails are drying out and getting brittle? They say they keep forgeting to use the oil.But I understand and know hat the acetone is very toxic to the nail
Stacie,
Acetone is not toxic to the nail, it can just be drying. If the nails are breaking check into a few things: make sure you are not buffing the nails, they must use oil (ask them to imagine what their hair would look like if they didn’t condition between color services), do no soak in a bowl of acetone to remove Shellac – be sure to wrap the nails, and make sure they are not wearing them too long for the activities and/or job(s) that they do.
Am really disappointed with Creative formation capsules which seem to have half the thickness to before. They split and break all the time. I have been using them for 20 years and now something has changed in the manufacturing process. Creative say that they have been improved, sadly the effect is the opposite. Almost everyday I have to redo split nails. Can you not go back to old process please? In the long run you are going to lose clients. Many thanks for your understanding. Regards.
The tip actually have improved, they are more flexible and easier to blend. Make sure you are not getting ScrubFresh on the tip, keep it targeted to the natural nail. You may also want to check that your tip cutter blade is not dull.
Hi here,
I use shellac for a year now and really love it!
I just had one as a gift (clearly pink) and realized the box and the top of the bottle was different. Did you change the rubber touch top to simple plastic and the plastic box to cardboard? Or I maybe have a fake one? It seems perfect otherwise, everything is the same as normal, and even works well. Thanks, Helga
I like the french manicure – shellec but have noted the white at times turns dark or has a tarnished look. It appears it has a chemical reaction to something but not sure what is going on. Any ideas?
Shellac is formulated with Acetone Soluble Polymers (tiny tunnels) making it removable in 10 minutes. These tiny tunnels also make Shellac less chemically resistant than gels, liquid & powders or other enhancement products. This can allow things like the dye in clothing, gloves, sheets, etc to stain the white. If it is a problem on a particular client sometimes two coats of topcoat can lessen the staining.
I have a client who spent the day at the beach. The shellac has been on her nails 2 weeks and it all peeled off after day at the beach. Can it be the sunscreen she is using? The ends of her nails turned yellow also
Thankyou
Stacie

At the spa and salon I work at we have been having problems over the past 3 weeks that we never had before, and are wondering what or why
1) When doing a french the white tip is getting bubbly
–Could it be because the white is to thick?
2) We have had regular clients complaining that is it not lasting as long and peeling off within a week of less of application
Would greatly appreciate some advise to fix the problem
I work at a spa and salon and we have had Shellac for about 3month and over the past 3 weeks we have found some problems with it. We are not sure why it is happening now and is did not before
1) It has been peeling off within days of getting it
2) whe doing the french the white tip is getting bubbly

At the spa and salon I work at we have been having problems over the past 3 weeks that we never had before, and are wondering what or why
1) When doing a french the white tip is getting bubbly
–Could it be because the white is to thick?
2) We have had regular clients complaining that is it not lasting as long and peeling off within a week of less of application
Would greatly appreciate some advise to fix the problem
Thank you
Amanda

Amanda,
This sounds like an under curing issue, if you are using the CND UV Lamp check your bulb life, instructions came with the lamp and are also available at cnd.com
Thank You,
